However, some adversaries believe mascots that reference Native Americans are now disrespectful. While mascots can be seen as controversial, these mascots are irrelevantly argued and should not be seen as symbols of oppression because they do not contain negative connotations or encourage bullying, and, as a result, are still respected in societies and do not impact historical context.
